Non-Specific Urethritis

Almost always caused through sexual infection!

Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethra. This is the tube that carries urine and semen through the penis.

The most common way to catch Non-Specific Urethritis (N.S.U) is via the sexual infection of Chlamydia. It can also be caused by injury, as the urethra is delicate and can be damaged during vigorous sexual activity.

"N.S.U may be experienced months or even years into a relationship and it doesn't necessarily mean that your partner has been unfaithful"

In rare circumstances, N.S.U can result from an allergic reaction, such as from a change in washing powders, from bubble baths or even from drinking excess alcohol.

Common symptoms of Non-Specific Urethritis:

  • Pain or a burning sensation when passing urine
  • A white/cloudy discharge from the tip of the penis
  • The need to pass urine more often

These symptoms can be associated with many other diseases, so if you are experiencing any of the above symptoms you should visit your GP or local GUM clinic.

Non-Specific Urethritis is generally diagnosed by examination of the genital area. Upon visiting your local clinic, you will normally be expected to give a sample swab from the penis and a urine sample.
