Trichomoniasis - The
Low Down
The most common non-viral sexually
transmitted disease
Trichomoniasis has more reported cases than Chlamydia or
Gonorrhoea and is the infection of the genitals
caused by the germ Trichomonas Vaginalis!
Diagnosis is usually made by testing a sample of the
vaginal discharge, as, although both men and women can
be infected, women usually have more symptoms.
"If Trichomoniasis is left untreated in pregnant
women, it is possible for her to pass the infection on
to her unborn child"
Trichomoniasis can be treated with antibiotics or with
cream inserted into the vagina. You should avoid having
sexual intercourse until you have been treated and given the
all clear by your GP or GUM clinic.
