Although genital warts can be embarrassing, it is important
to have them checked out at your GP's or GUM clinic. This is
because genital warts can be caused by a sexually transmitted
infection, and in rare cases, can be a sign of cervical
cancer.
The doctor or nurse will normally take a swab from the
area to check for the infection. If no obvious warts are
suspected but you have been in contact with someone with the
infection, then the doctor or nurse will apply a solution that
turns the warts white.
Symptoms in Men:
- Warts can appear on the penis, anus and genital area
Symptoms in Women:
- Warts can appear on any area in the genital region,
including the anus, vaginal walls and the cervix
Genital Warts are normally small, pink, cauliflower-shaped
growths on the genital areas. They can rang in size from 1mm
to over 1cm and you may only have one or two or you may
develop a cluster.
